Mechanical Permits & Solar Permits

Permits required for the following work:

• addition, replacement, repair of mechanical systems
• gas lines
• HVAC systems
• Solar systems, including PV and hot water Solar Permit Guidelines

Homeowners may obtain mechanical permits. If a mechanical contractor obtains the permit, that contractor must have a City of Durango business license.

Solar permits are $20. 

All other mechanical permit fees are based on 1/2% of the total value of work requiring a building permit, or based on the actual cost of the work if building permit is not needed, plus use tax.   Estimate Fees 

In most cases, applications are not necessary.  In cases where the proposed mechanical work is extensive and is not related to an open building permit, please submit a mechanical permit application and 2 sets of plans for review.  For more information, please call the Building Department at 375-4850.

Once the work is complete, you can request an inspection.
